Bushbuckridge celebrates heritage, tourism and cultural diversity

Bushbuckridge Local Municipality hosted its annual Heritage and Tourism Celebration at Rivoni Sports Ground in Casteel, bringing together residents, traditional leaders, government departments, businesses and representatives from the local tourism sector.

The event, led by Executive Mayor Cllr ML Moroane, attracted residents from Ward 13 and surrounding communities, representatives of the Sethlare Traditional Authority, municipal officials, sector departments and members of the business community. The programme was directed by the Speaker of Council, Cllr Raganya.

The celebration highlighted Bushbuckridge’s rich cultural diversity, with traditional dance groups entertaining attendees through performances including Muchongolo and Xigubu.

Government departments, businesses and other organisations also delivered messages of support, while residents had access to various government services, including health and social development services, at the event.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Moroane called on residents to reject attempts to divide communities along tribal lines, stressing the importance of unity in working towards the development of Bushbuckridge.

She also encouraged residents to embrace traditional foods such as marupi, tihove and muroho, highlighting their role in promoting healthy lifestyles while preserving local heritage and cultural practices.

The event also incorporated environmental and waste-management initiatives, with refuse bins and trees handed over to a local daycare centre and primary school as part of efforts to promote cleaner and greener communities.
