Mpumalanga Government Moves to Resolve Scholar Transport Challenges

The Mpumalanga Departments of Public Works, Roads and Transport and Education held a joint meeting on Sunday to address challenges following the introduction of the new Scholar Transport contract on 1 September 2026.
The meeting, led by MECs Thulasizwe Thomo and Lindi Masina, noted that services are running smoothly in most areas, but some communities continue to experience disruptions.
Officials have been instructed to intensify monitoring, engage affected schools and communities, work with transport operators and urgently resolve outstanding issues before the end of the week.
The departments apologised to learners, parents and communities affected by the disruptions and stressed that learner safety and access to education remain the priority.
Communities were also urged to cooperate with officials and avoid intimidation, threats, violence or disruptions, with both MECs calling for challenges to be resolved through dialogue and established government processes.
