Cops Bust Undocumented Trio With 9kgs Of Dagga

A trio of undocumented immigrants were nabbed by police early Monday hauling over 9 kilograms of dagga through Mpumalanga valued at approximately R37,000.

Officers uncovered the compressed stash after searching commuters at a bus stop in Magogeni around 4:30 a.m., said police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

A 33-year-old Mozambican man had two kilos concealed on him worth over R8,000. When detained, he allegedly tried bribing the cops, earning him an additional charge.

Hours later along the R570 road, two more undocumented immigrants from Eswatini were arrested with seven kilos wrapped in blankets inside plastic bags.

The 26 and 33-year-old men were passengers in a taxi heading to Komatipoort.

All three now face drug possession and immigration charges. The Mozambican also faces a bribery count for his alleged attempt to pay off police.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Semakaleng Daphney Manamela said officers will maintain vigilance against trafficking.

“Police will continue to ensure that Mpumalanga Province never becomes a free passage for drug traffickers,” Manamela vowed.
